The Bureau of X-Ray Compliance (Bureau) works to improve the quality of life by protecting the public and radiation workers from unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation from x-ray machines and reducing medical misdiagnosis caused by faulty x-ray equipment and operator error.

X-Ray Machines

For information regarding the inspection program for all radiation therapy, medical diagnostic, dental, industrial, particle accelerators and analytical x-ray equipment within the state. In addition, the section administers the Quality Assurance programs for medical diagnostic and dental CBCT x-ray equipment.

X-Ray Technologist

Responsible for administering New Jersey’s educational and licensure program for radiologic technologists. Currently, NJ has approximately 23,000 licensed radiologic technologists in ten licensure categories. Additionally, all educational programs that wish to teach radiography in NJ must be approved by our staff.  To Find out more about technologist licensing and educational requirements.

Machine Registration

The Registration Section is responsible for processing all requests for registration and disposition of x-ray machines. In addition, the Section is responsible for assessing and collecting all fees associated with registered x-ray machines in New Jersey.  Learn more about registering, disposing and fees related to x-ray machine.

Mammography (MQSA)

The Mammography Section is responsible for annually inspecting all U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certified Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) facilities. The Bureau has a contract with the FDA for the inspection of all MQSA facilities in New Jersey.  Learn more about the Mammography program.

Online Payments

You can pay your facility’s registration fees or renew your X-Ray Technologist license online.  It’s fast and convenient, all you need is your facility ID/license # and the invoice number you are paying.  Select “Pay a Paper Invoice” if you are paying your facilities registration fees or “Pay for a License” for Technologist license.

On-Line Reports

Look up information regarding your x-ray facility, qualified individuals to perform testing at your facility and look up your invoicing information for online payments.  Technologists can verify the status of their license and obtain invoice information to renew online

Medical Physicist

You must be approved by the Bureau to perform radiation safety surveys on medical, non-medical and radiation therapy machine in NJ.  In order to perform Quality Assurance/Control Surveys in NJ you must meet the qualifications outlined in NJAC 7:25-22.12 and certified by the Bureau.
