For temporary ground and surface water control (dewatering) diversions in excess of 100,000* gallons of water per day, the project owner must obtain a Dewatering Allocation Permit, Dewatering Permit-by-Rule or Short Term Permit-by-Rule, depending on the duration of the diversion and the method employed. Construction Related Dewatering Guidance will help determine which type of dewatering permit you will need for your project.
* At the 100,000 gallons per day threshold additional approvals for water diversion may be required by the Delaware River Basin Commission and the New Jersey Pinelands Commission.
2026 FEE SCHEDULE (effective 1/1/2026): The new fee schedule for Water Allocation Permits and Dewatering Permits becomes effective January 1st, 2026.
