[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]All waste that is picked up or delivered to a facility in New Jersey must be transported by a company that is registered with the Department.  Equipment used to pick up or dispose of waste must display NJDEP decals.  Separate registrations must be filed with NJDEP’s Vehicle Registration Unit for “Solid Waste” and “Hazardous Waste”:

  • “Solid Waste” are solid, liquid or gaseous materials that are not being recycled and not classified as “hazardous waste”.  Examples of “Solid Waste” include residential trash, construction debris, vegetative, food, septic, and regulated medical waste.
  • “Hazardous Waste” are solid, liquid or gaseous materials that are not being recycled and exhibit a hazardous characteristic (ignitable, corrosive, reactive or toxic) or listed as a “Hazardous Waste” by the Environmental Protection Agency because of chemicals involved or process which generated such waste.

Companies who transport waste generated by a third party (remove for others) are also required to obtain an A-901 License and a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (“CPCN”), where the collection or brokering of solid waste is involved, unless otherwise excepted by regulation.  The A-901License and CPCN must be obtained prior to submitting an Initial Registration Statement to become registered and obtain decals for each piece of equipment used to transport waste. Public Entities (that do not compete in the solid waste marketplace), and those transporting waste generated through their own business are not subject to these additional requirements.

Below are links to web pages for each type of waste transporter registration with additional information, relevant forms and links to online services.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row gap=”25″ equal_height=”yes”][vc_column][vc_row_inner equal_height=”yes” gap=”10″][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][info-box-shortcode headerclass=”bg-dep-blue” title=”Self-Generator Solid Waste Transporters” buttontitle=”Learn More” buttonlink=”https://deptest.nj.gov/wastedecals/self-generator-solid-waste-transporters/”]For information specific to Self-Generators

Transporters with 30 or Fewer Vehicles

Transporters with 30 or fewer vehicles can use a service that does not require you to create an NJDEP online account – it is the equivalent of making an online purchase and checking out as a Guest. The advantage of creating and using an NJDEP online account is having the ability to complete a service in more than one session and having a history of all such submissions.
