The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cooperative effort among Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic U.S. states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a cap-and-invest program, where states put a price on carbon emissions from power plants and invest the funds into projects that reduce climate change. NJ invests RGGI proceeds in the following initiatives: 1) Accelerate Healthy Homes and Building Decarbonization, (2) Catalyze Clean, Equitable Transportation, (3) Strengthen New Jersey’s Forests, (4) Promote Blue Carbon in Coastal Habitats, and (5) Increase the pace of clean energy investment and job growth by creating a NJ Green Bank as outlined in the Strategic Funding Plan. Below are funding opportunities available as a result of RGGI investments.

The program is designed to expand New Jersey’s growing network of electric vehicle infrastructure, allowing residents, businesses, and government agencies to purchase and drive electric vehicles. EVs dramatically reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality for everyone.[/info-box-shortcode][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][info-box-shortcode title=”eMobility” buttontitle=”Learn More” buttonlink=”https://deptest.nj.gov/drivegreen/emobility/” bgimg=”551″]eMobility is equitable, shared transportation using electric vehicles. These projects benefit low- to moderate-income communities disproportionately impacted by air pollution through carshare and ride hailing programs, electric taxis, shuttle services, and more. eMobility project proposals are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. Eligible projects are categorized and considered for award as funding sources become available. [/info-box-shortcode][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][info-box-shortcode title=”Medium- and Heavy-Duty Electric Vehicles” buttontitle=”Learn More” buttonlink=”https://deptest.nj.gov/drivegreen/mhdv-funding-and-incentives/” bgimg=”617″]DEP offers incentives to cover the incremental cost of replacing diesel vehicles with all-electric vehicles. Incentives are available for 100% of the costs, including charging infrastructure. Eligible vehicles include shuttle buses, school buses, garbage trucks, and transit buses. Privately-owned school buses under contract with a public-school district are also eligible. This program complements the NJ ZIP program by offering financing for vehicle costs that may not be met by vouchers or other grants. Loans range from $50,000 to $500,000 for up to a maximum of 100% of eligible vehicle costs.
