About Us
The Solid Waste Compliance and Enforcement program ensures garbage (“solid waste”) and recyclables are properly managed through enforcement of the Solid Waste Management Act, (N.J.S.A. 13:1E-1 et seq.) and the Solid Waste Utility Control Act, (N.J.S.A. 48:13A-1 et seq.) and the regulation(s) (N.J.A.C. 7:26-1, 7:26A-1 and 7:26H et seq.)

What We Do
The Solid Waste Compliance and Enforcement program performs the following activities to ensure that solid waste is collected, transported and disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner and in a competitive marketplace:

  • Provides compliance assistance
  • Investigates complaints
  • Conducts inspections
  • Issues enforcement documents, both formal and informal which may include assessed penalties
  • Assists the Attorney General in developing enforcement cases and testifies in court
  • Negotiates compliance schedules and penalty settlements

Illegal Dumping can be reported to DEP using the web-based app, that includes the option to attach photos and use location services to include with the report, or by calling the DEP Hotline: 1-877-WARN DEP.

BUREAU OF HAZARDOUS WASTE COMPLIANCE & ENFORCEMENT

About Us
The Hazardous Waste Compliance and Enforcement program administers the RCRA (Resource Conservation Recovery Act) program in New Jersey. There is also a transportation oversight function that includes, in coordination with the State Police, roadside operations and hazardous waste transporter terminal audits.

What We Do
The Hazardous Waste Compliance and Enforcement program performs the following activities to ensure that hazardous waste is properly identified and collected, transported, treated and disposed of in an environmentally sound manner:

  • Provides compliance assistance
  • Investigates complaints
  • Conducts inspections
  • Issues enforcement documents, both formal and informal, which may include assessed penalties
  • Assists the Attorney General in developing enforcement cases and testifies in court
  • Negotiates compliance schedule and penalty settlements
  • Registers, tracks, and bills medical waste generators
  • Manages permissions for MyRCRAid to allow access to RCRAInfo
  • Reviews Biennial Hazardous Waste Reports
