UNIVERSAL WASTE TRANSPORTER REQUIREMENTS
Universal Waste Transporter means a person engaged in the off-site transportation of universal waste by air, rail, highway, or water.
Prohibitions: A Universal Waste Transporter is prohibited from disposing of universal waste, and from diluting or treating universal waste, except by responding to releases as provided in 40 C.F.R. 273.54.
Did Transporter comply with universal waste prohibitions? [40 CFR 273.51]
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Did Transporter comply with USDOT regulations in 49 C.F.R. part 171 through 180 for transport of any universal waste that meets the definition of hazardous material? [40 CFR 273.52(a)]
Did Transporter make certain not to describe a universal waste with the words hazardous waste or N.O.S. or include the word waste in the shipping description? [40 CFR 273.52(b)]
STORAGE TIME LIMITS
Did Transporter who stored universal waste at a transfer facility for greater than 10 days do so in compliance with the applicable universal waste handler requirements found in subpart B or C of 40 C.F.R. 273? [40 CFR 273.53]
RESPONSE TO RELEASES
Did Transporter immediately contain any releases or residues of universal waste? [40 CFR 273.54(a)]
Did Transporter determine if any material resulting from a release of universal waste is hazardous, and manage the waste in compliance with 40 C.F.R. parts 260 through 272? [40 CFR 273.54(b)]
OFF-SITE SHIPMENTS
Did Transporter send or take universal waste to a place other than another universal waste handler, a destination facility, or a foreign destination? [40 CFR 273.55(a)]
Did Transporter, which shipped universal waste off-site that met the definition of a hazardous material, describe the universal waste on the shipping paper in accordance with the applicable Department of Transportation regulations? [40 CFR 273.55(b)]
