About the Division of Land Resource Protection

The Division of Land Resource Protection’s (LRP) mission is to protect New Jersey’s environment and public health, using the best available science, to ensure that our communities are resilient to climate impacts and by implementing state environmental laws in recognition of the intimate tie between land use and the health of the ocean, estuaries, streams, coastal waters, wetlands, and wildlife habitat, as well as the quality of drinking water.

In furtherance of this mission, LRP is responsible for land use permitting in New Jersey’s environmental areas which are regulated under the Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act (N.J.S.A. 13:9B), Flood Hazard Area Control Act (N.J.S.A. 58:16A), Wetlands Act of 1970 (N.J.S.A. 13:9A), Coastal Area Facility Review Act (N.J.S.A. 13:19), Waterfront Development Law (N.J.S.A. 12:5-3), Tidelands Act (N.J.S.A. 12:3-1 et seq), Water Pollution Control Act (N.J.S.A. 58:10A et seq.) and the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act (N.J.S.A. 13:20-1 et seq).  LRP is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the above-referenced statutes and their supporting regulations, and for pursuing enforcement actions and restoration when violations occur.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”64px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
