By 2050, sea-level rise is projected to reach or exceed 2.1 feet above 2000 levels.
The size and frequency of floods will increase as annual precipitation increases. This will increase the threat of flash flooding, even in places that haven’t flooded before.

FEMA Flood Zone

These designations are based on historical data and do not account for climate change

Special Flood Hazard Areas. These high-risk flood areas have a 1 in 4 chance of flooding during a 30-year mortgage, otherwise known as a 1% annual flood risk.

Flood risk exists in these areas, though it is lower than in high-risk zones. FEMA reports that about 25% of all flood claims come from these areas.

Not currently in a FEMA Flood Zone. Future changes like climate change or alterations in the landscape might affect flood risk.

Inland Flood Risk

Shows areas in New Jersey at risk of flooding from waters 3 ft above FEMA’s 1% Annual Chance Flood (100-year flood) to account for increased flood risk due to climate change. Areas shaded in dark blue or green show the new FEMA special flood hazard areas with added climate change risk.
