The State of New Jersey is requesting the USEPA to revise the boundary of the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island Nonattainment Area (Northern New Jersey-New York-Connecticut NAA) for the 2008 75 ppb and 2015 70 ppb 8-hour Ozone NAAQS in accordance with Clean Air Act (CAA) 107(d)(3)(D).  New Jersey’s request is for the NAA to be split into two distinct nonattainment areas, in which the New Jersey portion of the NAA would encompass one nonattainment area and the remaining counties in New York and Connecticut would encompass the other NAA. The proposed separate nonattainment areas would cover the identical geographic area as the existing, and both areas would retain their current nonattainment designations and classifications. New Jersey’s request includes a five-factor analysis and demonstrates that the factors associated with USEPA’s original boundary designation of the NAA have significantly changed and should be updated to represent the current state of air quality based on monitoring data, emissions inventory, control measures, contribution modeling results, geography and topography, impacts from wildfire smoke and contributions from nearby upwind areas.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=””][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_row_inner equal_height=”yes”][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][info-box-shortcode title=”Letter to USEPA”]
