{"id":36,"date":"2020-02-26T21:13:56","date_gmt":"2020-02-26T21:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/njdep.kesz1dev.com\/eo\/?page_id=36"},"modified":"2026-03-02T11:34:53","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T16:34:53","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/wastecompliance\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<strong>BUREAU OF SOLID WASTE COMPLIANCE &amp; ENFORCEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>About Us<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Solid Waste Compliance and Enforcement program ensures garbage (\u201csolid waste\u201d) and recyclables are properly managed through enforcement of the Solid Waste Management Act, (N.J.S.A. 13:1E-1 et seq.) and the Solid Waste Utility Control Act, (N.J.S.A. 48:13A-1 et seq.) and the regulation(s) (N.J.A.C. 7:26-1, 7:26A-1 and 7:26H et seq.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>What We Do<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Solid Waste Compliance and Enforcement program performs the following activities to ensure that solid waste is collected, transported and disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner and in a competitive marketplace:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provides compliance assistance<\/li>\n<li>Investigates complaints<\/li>\n<li>Conducts inspections<\/li>\n<li>Issues enforcement documents, both formal and informal which may include assessed penalties<\/li>\n<li>Assists the Attorney General in developing enforcement cases and testifies in court<\/li>\n<li>Negotiates compliance schedules and penalty settlements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Illegal Dumping<\/strong>\u00a0can be reported to DEP using the<em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stopdumping.nj.gov\/instructions.htm\"><strong>web-based app<\/strong><\/a><\/em><strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0that includes the option to attach photos and use location services to include with the report, or by calling the DEP Hotline: 1-877-WARN DEP.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/guardyourbackyard\/\">Guard Your Backyard website<\/a> to find additional information and useful resources compiled in one place to help municipalities and communities ensure proper handling of soil and fill material and protect against unwanted residential soil dumping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>BUREAU OF HAZARDOUS WASTE COMPLIANCE &amp; ENFORCEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>About Us<\/strong><br \/>\nThe\u00a0<span class=\"sectionHeading\">Hazardous Waste<\/span>\u00a0Compliance and Enforcement program administers the RCRA (Resource Conservation Recovery Act) program in New Jersey.
