Notice of Rule Proposal <\/strong>and State Implementation Plan Revision<\/strong> PUBLIC NOTICE<\/strong> The proposal also constitutes a revision to New Jersey\u2019s State Implementation Plan (SIP) for the attainment and maintenance of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for ozone.\u00a0 New Jersey is in nonattainment for the Federal ozone NAAQS and must continue to reduce NOx emissions Statewide to attain and maintain the ozone NAAQS.<\/p>\n The proposal is scheduled to be published in the New Jersey Register dated January 3, 2022.\u00a0 A copy of the proposal is available on the Department\u2019s webpages at: https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/rules\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/proposals\/20220103a.pdf <\/a>and LexisNexis free public access to the New Jersey Register (https:\/\/www.lexisnexis.com\/hottopics\/njoal<\/a>).<\/p>\n A public hearing concerning the proposal will be conducted virtually via the Department\u2019s video conferencing software on February 9, 2022, at 9:30 A.M.<\/p>\n Please join the meeting from your computer, tablet, or smartphone<\/strong>. \nMobile Cargo Handling Equipment at Ports and Intermodal Rail Yards

\nProposed New Rules: N.J.A.C. 7:27-34<\/p>\n
\nTake notice <\/strong>that the NJ Department of Environmental Protection is proposing new Air Pollution Control rules at N.J.A.C. 7:27-34 and amendments to N.J.A.C. 7:27A-3.10.
\nThe proposed rules focus on reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions from diesel mobile cargo handling equipment at ports and intermodal rail yards.\u00a0 Specifically, the Department\u2019s proposed rules are modeled on a California regulation and would require diesel mobile cargo handling equipment at ports and intermodal rail yards to meet performance standards that reflect best available control technology.\u00a0 The proposed rules are expected to reduce diesel engine emissions, including NOx, and PM, in communities located near ports and intermodal rail yards.<\/p>\n
