Notice of Rule Proposal<\/strong> Public Notice<\/b> The proposed revisions are required in order to make New Jersey\u2019s regulations adequate and compatible as compared to those of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). These revisions are required in support of New Jersey\u2019s effort to become an Agreement State, as described in Governor Corzine\u2019s letter of intent to the NRC dated May 23, 2006. The changes will allow the State to regulate not only naturally occurring and accelerator produced radioactive materials, which it already does under the current regulations, but also byproduct, source and certain special nuclear materials that are currently regulated by the NRC. If New Jersey did not become an Agreement State, the State program would be pre-empted by the Federal government in August 2009.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The proposal is scheduled to be published in the New Jersey Register dated May 19, 2008.
