\nNew Jersey Pollution Discharge Elimination System \u2013 N.J.A.C.
\n7:14A<\/p>\n
\nTake notice that the NJ Department of Environmental
\nProtection is proposing new rules at N.J.A.C. 7:14A-21, Requirements
\nfor Indirect Users.\u00a0 The proposed new rules are intended
\nto significantly reduce mercury released to the environment
\nby dental facilities.\u00a0 The proposed new rules would, under
\nmost circumstances, exempt a dental facility from the requirement
\nto obtain an individual permit for its discharge to a POTW,
\nif it (i) implements best management practices (BMPs) for the
\nhandling of dental amalgam waste, and (ii) installs and properly
\noperates an amalgam separator.\u00a0 These measures are expected
\nto prevent 99 percent of the mercury wastes from being sent
\nto the POTW.\u00a0 The facility would have one year from the
\neffective date of the rule to implement the BMPs, and two years
\nto install the separator.<\/p>\n
