[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”5\/6″][vc_column_text css=””]Resilient NJ supports local governments to create and implement resilience planning solutions to address current and future climate related hazards, environmental resource protection, and promotion of sustainable\/smart-growth development in both inland and coastal communities.<\/p>\n
The program utilizes available funding sources to provide the services of qualified consultant teams to help local governments imagine creative and implementable solutions that will increase their resilience, enhance the value and integrity of ecologic and economic resources, improve public access and recreation opportunities, and reach underserved and socially vulnerable populations. Consultants work with municipalities to engage the community, develop solutions and products that address their unique community needs, and assist with project implementation, most often through supporting development of grant applications for federal funding opportunities.<\/p>\n
As a result of work done through Resilient NJ, communities participating in the program have received $26.5 million (as of early 2025) in additional federal funding since 2021 to implement resilience actions.<\/p>\n
These projects are supported by multiple grants and funding sources including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded through the National Disaster Resilience Completion, and with additional assistance through HUD CDBG-DR funding; State of New Jersey Corporate Business Tax; the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 as amended and administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Coastal Resilience Fund.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][info-box-shortcode buttontitle=”View Map (pdf)” buttonlink=”https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/ocr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/124\/24x36_rnj-map-1.pdf” targetlink=”true” bgimg=”1568″][\/info-box-shortcode][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n
There are several multi-municipal regions participating in Resilient NJ to develop and implement their own unique resilience planning products including Regional Resilience Action Plans and climate change-related hazard vulnerability assessments (consistent with the Municipal Land Use Law). These projects bring together teams of municipalities, counties, and community-based organizations with a strong emphasis on robust and meaningful community engagement, specifically supporting socially vulnerable populations in the project area.<\/p>\n

Resilient NJ\u2019s Municipal Assistance Program (MAP) is a technical assistance program directed at providing municipalities with support to develop municipal resilience action plans and climate change-related hazard vulnerability assessments (CCHRVA) consistent with the State\u2019s Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL).<\/p>\n
Projects within the MAP program are conducted using a thorough and equitable engagement process to result in municipal resilience action plans to be used by local governments to advance resilience projects in their communities. As the program expands, the Office of Climate Resilience continues to determine new and different ways to provide assistance to best meet the needs of areas all of New Jersey\u2019s communities.<\/p>\n
