{"id":932,"date":"2023-04-25T15:00:15","date_gmt":"2023-04-25T19:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/nrr\/?page_id=932"},"modified":"2023-04-25T15:03:02","modified_gmt":"2023-04-25T19:03:02","slug":"educational-displays-at-island-beach-state-park","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/nrr\/restoration\/completed-restoration-projects\/educational-displays-at-island-beach-state-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Educational Displays at Island Beach State Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]In September of 2002, a surface water discharge at elevated temperatures at AmerGen Energy Company LLC\u2019s Oyster Creek Generating Station in Forked River, Ocean County, resulted in the death of at least 5,876 individual fish in Oyster Creek.\u00a0 Several species of fish were affected including striped bass, white perch, and Atlantic menhaden.<\/p>\n<p>Using $50,000.00 from the Oyster Creek natural resource damage settlement, the Department purchased new educational exhibits and media for three primary interpretive areas at Island Beach State Park in Ocean County.\u00a0 These areas include the Breezeway at the North Pavillion, the Forked River 112 Interpretive Center and the Interpretive Center of the Nature Center.<\/p>\n<p>Among the new interpretive exhibits installed are 220-gallon and 175-gallon capacity aquariums, an ocean life touch tank, fiberglass fish mounts, and aerial photographs of Sedge Islands, Island Beach, and Barnegat Inlet.\u00a0 The coastal exhibits will be used to educate the thousands of children and adults that visit the park each year to better understand the ecological values of the resource.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<a href=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/nrr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/125\/ibsp_dsc8480.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-934\" src=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/nrr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/125\/ibsp_dsc8480.jpg\" alt=\"image of Island Beach State Park Educational display\" width=\"550\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/nrr\/ibsp_dsc8480.jpg 550w, https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/nrr\/ibsp_dsc8480-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]In September of 2002, a surface water discharge at elevated temperatures at AmerGen Energy Company LLC\u2019s Oyster Creek Generating Station in Forked River, Ocean County, resulted in the death of at least 5,876 individual fish in Oyster Creek.\u00a0 Several species of fish were affected including striped bass, white perch, and Atlantic menhaden.
