BACKGROUND:\u00a0<\/strong>In 2007, The Army Corps completed a feasibility study on the buried box culvert located within a 500-foot section of Assunpink Creek.\u00a0 The box culvert was approved for removal and restoration.<\/u><\/p>\n

SUMMARY:<\/strong> This project will remove nearly 500 feet of a buried box culvert, thus \u201cdaylighting\u201d the creek, meaning that a portion of the waterway will no longer run underground.\u00a0 The project will stabilize and naturally align the daylighted creek with river stone, boulders and other materials.\u00a0 It will also improve fish migration from the Delaware River; and create two new acres of open space for passive recreation.\u00a0 Two million dollars was contributed towards this project from the Office of Natural Resource Restoration.\u00a0 DEP\u2019s Community Collaborative Initiative is overseeing this effort.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GOAL:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>To restore migratory fish habitat, improve the overall stream ecology of the Assunpink Creek and enhance urban recreational opportunities.<\/p>\n

SCHEDULE: <\/strong>Work on Phase 1 of the project<\/span>, to which ONRR contributed funds,<\/span> was completed in the S<\/span>ummer of 2020<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
