{"id":757,"date":"2023-04-12T19:40:35","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T19:40:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/nrr\/?page_id=757"},"modified":"2024-10-18T14:52:17","modified_gmt":"2024-10-18T18:52:17","slug":"mad-horse-creek-land-acquisition","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/nrr\/restoration\/landaq-ceasements\/mad-horse-creek-land-acquisition\/","title":{"rendered":"Mad Horse Creek Land Acquisition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 182 acre tract of land in Lower Alloway Creek Township in Salem County was acquired by the State in 1997 from settlement monies received for a #6 oil spill into the Delaware River in March 1989 by Presidente Rivera.\u00a0 The spill impacted wetlands and the public use of fisheries recreation.<\/p>\n<p>The property contains salt marshes, transitional wetlands (phragmites dominant<em>),\u00a0<\/em>agricultural land and associated buildings and provides access to the Hope Creek and Alloway Creek salt marsh complexes.\u00a0 Past agricultural practices on the land consisted of altering and filling the brackish marsh fringe which has resulted in a phragmites invasion of the wetland.\u00a0 The property is currently part of the Mad Horse Creek Wildlife Management Area which is to be restored.
