{"id":1009,"date":"2023-04-27T16:33:19","date_gmt":"2023-04-27T20:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/nrr\/?page_id=1009"},"modified":"2024-10-18T16:02:00","modified_gmt":"2024-10-18T20:02:00","slug":"squankum-brook-restoration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/nrr\/restoration\/completed-restoration-projects\/squankum-brook-restoration\/","title":{"rendered":"Squankum Brook Restoration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<strong>LOCATION:<\/strong>\u00a0Squankum Brook, Howell Township, Monmouth County \u2013 Watershed Management Area 12<\/p>\n<p><strong>PURPOSE:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Restore approximately 2 miles of channelized stream to a meandering stream using a hydro geomorphic approach to benefit American eel and other fish and wildlife habitat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FUNDING:<\/strong> Funding was primarily supplied by the NJDEP, Office of Natural Resource Restoration (ONRR) from money that was received from Natural Resource Damage Settlements that occurred in Watershed Management Area 12 (WMA-12). NJ Comprehensive Wetland Restoration Program (NJCWRP) also contributed towards the project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PROJECT SUMMARY:<\/strong>\u00a0 The project consisted of restructuring flow patterns in order to improve foraging opportunities, nursery conditions and habitat for several fish species including American eel, and potentially brook trout.
