What is an SMA?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A Seasonal Management Area is a designated zone where vessels 65 feet or longer must follow mandatory speed limits to help protect the endangered North Atlantic right whale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where are the SMAs?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

They cover key areas along the Mid-Atlantic coast, including waters off the Delaware Bay and the New York\u2013New Jersey Bight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do SMAs matter?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Speed restrictions reduce the risk of vessel collisions with migrating whales and help protect these critically endangered animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
