The fish weighed in at 11 pounds, 8.5 ounces eclipsing\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/njfw\/news-2011-07-06-state-record-bowfin-caught\/\">previous state record<\/a>\u00a0by 10.5 ounces. The fish measured 31.7\u2033 in length and had a girth of 17.1\u2033. Pierce was fishing from the shore of Matua Creek when the fish hit. Pierce was using a Shimano rod and reel with 20-pound braided line.
