Oysters need a hard substrate to attach to in order to grow and build reefs. Planting shell onto natural oyster reefs provides the necessary habitat for oyster larvae to attach to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By participating in shell recycling programs, restaurants can help their local coastal environments and save money on waste disposal costs, while also keeping shell out of landfills. New Jersey Fish &amp; Wildlife\u2019s Marine Resources Administration coordinates a free\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/njfw\/fishing\/marine\/shell-recycling-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shell Recycling Program<\/a>\u00a0which serves Atlantic and Cape May Counties, as well as portions of Ocean County.
