(There is also the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/dep\/fgw\/hntlic_apprentice.htm\">Apprentice License<\/a>&nbsp;which allows any age-appropriate person to try shotgun or archery hunting, before completing a Hunter Education Course. The apprentice must hunt with a mentor; other restrictions apply.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Youth Firearm, Bow and Arrow or Trapping License is valid from time of issuance until December 31 of the year that he or she turns 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Properly licensed youth hunters (resident &amp; non-resident) aged 10\u201313 may hunt only when accompanied by a properly N.J. licensed adult aged 21 or older. Upon reaching 14 years of age a properly licensed youth may hunt independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To obtain a Youth License, hunters need to bring their Hunter Education Course completion card to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/dep\/fgw\/agentlst.htm\">license agent<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nj.aspirafocus.com\/internetsales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">obtain it online<\/a>\u00a0(if course completion has been entered by Hunter Education staff).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duplicate Youth Licenses<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qualified youth hunters may obtain a duplicate Youth License at any&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/dep\/fgw\/agentlst.htm\">license agent<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nj.aspirafocus.com\/internetsales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transportation Tags\/Harvest Stub<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transportation tags, formerly included on all hunting licenses except Youth Licenses, have been replaced by a harvest stub &#8211;&nbsp;<strong>but not on Youth Licenses<\/strong>. Youth hunters harvesting deer must use the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/dep\/fgw\/ahrs.htm\">Automated Harvest Report System<\/a>&nbsp;(AHRS) to report their deer. Youths should use the&nbsp;<strong>Deer Harvest Report Card<\/strong>&nbsp;found in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/dep\/fgw\/dighnt21.htm\">Hunting &amp; Trapping Digest<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"\/njfw\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/deer_harvest_report_card.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online<\/a>&nbsp;(pdf, 120kb)&nbsp;to record information as part of this process and for tagging deer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youth hunters are encouraged to take advantage of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/dep\/fgw\/takekidhunting.htm\"><strong>Take A Kid Hunting Program<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to increase their early enjoyment of the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If further information or assistance contact the Hunter Education Office at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:njhuntered@deptest.nj.gov\">NJHunterEd@deptest.nj.gov<\/a>\u00a0or call 856-629-0552.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Jersey issues resident and nonresident youth hunting licenses free of charge to those at least age 10 and under the age of 16 who have completed a&nbsp;Hunter Education Course.
