Black Rail eDNA Survey

The Black Rail is an endangered and federally threatened avian species in New Jersey. NJDEP Fish & Wildlife Endangered and Nongame Species Program biologists are now experimenting with a new technique to locate this extremely rare bird by collecting environmental DNA (eDNA) samples in the field. This survey is a collaboration between partners from US Fish and Wildlife Service, Natural Lands, Rutgers Department of Ecology, Evolution and Natural Resources and funded by The Eppley Foundation for Research Inc to help locate and protect this rare species…
