Whether you\u2019re a Revolutionary War buff or enjoy swimming at the shore or a scenic lake, we are ready to help you enjoy summer in New Jersey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to travel far to have a fun-filled summer, because New Jersey\u2019s state parks, forests, and historic sites have something for everyone,\u201d <strong>said John Cecil, Assistant Commissioner for State Parks, Forests &amp; Historic Sites<\/strong>. \u201cThis summer, we invite residents and visitors to enjoy and learn about New Jersey\u2019s natural and historic resources. Park staff are prepared, facilities are ready, and our commitment to increased visitor accessibility ensures that more people than ever will be able to enjoy these public spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-33024 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/newsrel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/smoke.jpg\" alt=\"cannon and smoke\" width=\"342\" height=\"228\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Professional staff ranging from lifeguards to State Park Police officers, Resource Interpretive Specialists to park Superintendents, and Visitor Services Assistants to maintenance personnel will help keep guests of all ages and abilities safe and informed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Semiquincentennial Plans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year is particularly special as New Jersey is preparing for the 250<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence next year, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/governor\/news\/news\/562022\/20221129a.shtml\">work under way<\/a> to ready historic sites for visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Strategically important during the War for Independence, New Jersey is nationally recognized as the Crossroads of the American Revolution. Many key battles occurred on lands that are now protected as state parks and historic sites.<\/p>\n<p>Among the key Revolutionary War sites preserved by the New Jersey State Park Service are <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/washingtoncrossingstatepark.html\">Washington Crossing State Park<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/princetonbattlefieldstatepark.html\">Princeton Battlefield State Park<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/monmouthbattlefieldstatepark.html\">Monmouth Battlefield State Park<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/historic\/indiankingtavern.html\">Indian King Tavern<\/a> in Haddonfield, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/historic\/trentonbattlemonument.html\">Trenton Battle Monument<\/a>. The Murphy Administration has allocated $25 million for capital improvement projects at 10 historic sites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Swimming Areas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lifeguards at Island Beach State Park returned to the stands on May 24 for Memorial Day weekend and will be on duty weekends only until Saturday, June 14. Beginning June 14, lifeguards will be on duty daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Labor Day, Sept. 1.<\/p>\n<p>Lakefront swim areas will open on staggered dates in mid-June. Lifeguarded swimming is anticipated at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/highpointstatepark.html\">High Point<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/hopatcongstatepark.html\">Hopatcong<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/swartswoodstatepark.html\">Swartswood<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/wawayandastatepark.html\">Wawayanda<\/a>\u00a0state parks in the northern part of the state; <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/cheesequakestatepark.html\">Cheesequake State Park<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/roundvalleyrecreationarea.html\">Round Valley Recreation Area<\/a> in the central region; and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/islandbeachstatepark.html\">Island Beach State Park<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/atsionrecreationarea.html\">Atsion Recreation Area<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/whartonstateforest.html\">Wharton State Forest<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/parvinstatepark.html\">Parvin State Park<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/belleplainstateforest.html\">Belleplain<\/a> state forest in the south. Detailed swim schedules for each property are available <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/parks\/swimmingschedule.html\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-33023 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/newsrel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/beach.jpg\" alt=\"beach\" width=\"359\" height=\"226\" \/><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition to welcoming visitors, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/\">State Park Service<\/a> continues accepting applications for seasonal lifeguard jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Lifeguard positions remain available at swimming areas across the state, with salaries starting at $18.50 per hour. Oceanfront guards at Island Beach State Park start at $19.50 per hour.<\/p>\n<p>While prior experience is not necessary, candidates must pass running and swim tests prior to employment. The State Park Service will train lifeguards in cardiopulmonary resuscitation\/Automated External Defibrillator use, first aid and other health and safety techniques. Each lifeguard will also receive a U.S. Lifesaving Association certification.<\/p>\n<p>Applications may be submitted at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/workinparks\">www.nj.gov\/dep\/workinparks<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Parks Accessibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Murphy Administration is committed to making parks and open spaces accessible to everyone. To that end, the State Park Service has updated playground equipment and added mobility equipment to some locations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/newsrel\/24_0050\/\">Inclusive playgrounds<\/a> at Atsion Recreation Area in Wharton State Forest, Cheesequake State Park, and Wawayanda State Park have solid rubber surfacing and equipment that enhance the playground experience for people of all abilities. These offer the greatest level of access for those with a wide range of special needs.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors with mobility impairments can explore select trails at Wharton State Forest using a reservable Track Chair \u2013 an all-terrain, electric-powered wheelchair capable of navigating areas inaccessible to standard wheelchairs.
