<\/div>\nJanuary 21, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n DEP to Host Open House on Liberty State Park Revitalization Program on Saturday, January 25<\/strong><\/p>\n TRENTON<\/strong> \u2014 On Saturday, January 25, at the Liberty Science Center<\/strong>, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will host its fifth open house<\/a> on the Liberty State Park Revitalization Program. The event provides an opportunity for the public to comment on the forthcoming Holistic Long-term Master Plan and near final design concepts for immediate improvements along the Audrey Zapp Drive Corridor.<\/p>\n The open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Center for Learning and Teaching within the Liberty Science Center at 222 Jersey City Blvd, Jersey City<\/strong>. Prior open houses were held at the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal Building; however, the location was changed to the Liberty Science Center due to an ongoing restoration project<\/a> taking place in the Terminal Building.<\/p>\n Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette will deliver remarks at the start of the event. Those unable to attend the open house in person can view and comment on the materials presented on the Liberty State Park Revitalization Program\u2019s website<\/a> following its conclusion.<\/p>\n Open House Details<\/strong><\/p>\n Attendees will have an opportunity to view posters, participate in interactive exercises, provide comments and ask staff questions about the revitalization program. The event will focus on the Holistic Long-term Master Plan and the Audrey Zapp Drive Corridor. Additionally, attendees can view information on the ongoing cleanup and restoration<\/a> of the park\u2019s long fenced-off interior section located to the west of Freedom Way.<\/p>\n Parking for the event is available in Lot 12 located directly in front of the Liberty Science Center. Free parking validation stickers will be available for all open house attendees. For those arriving by public transit, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail\u2019s Liberty State Park Station is an approximately five-minute walk to the Liberty Science Center.<\/p>\n Liberty State Park Revitalization Program Background<\/strong><\/p>\n Since Liberty State Park\u2019s opening in 1976 as New Jersey\u2019s bicentennial \u201cgift to the nation,\u201d the park has been in a constant state of development and revitalization \u2013 transforming the area from an abandoned rail yard and illegal dumping ground into cherished parkland.<\/p>\n The Murphy Administration has been fully committed to advancing the Liberty State Park Revitalization Program with public interest at the center of the process. Beginning in 2020, the DEP has held a series of virtual meetings on the cleanup of the park\u2019s interior and hosted four large-scale open house events to give the public an opportunity to view plans up close, meet the revitalization program team and ask questions.<\/p>\n
