{"id":288,"date":"2022-08-03T14:31:17","date_gmt":"2022-08-03T18:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/grantandloanprograms\/?page_id=288"},"modified":"2025-08-04T10:46:28","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T14:46:28","slug":"community-firewise-grants","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/deptest.nj.gov\/grantandloanprograms\/community-firewise-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Firewise Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>THIS GRANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<strong>PURPOSE OF FUNDING<\/strong><br \/>\nMeeting the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy goals for Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR).<\/p>\n<p>To provide municipalities, communities and other qualifying organizations a cost-share incentive to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Obtain Firewise Community\/USA designation.<\/li>\n<li>Implement hazard mitigation activities.<\/li>\n<li>Train community Firewise liaisons.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct outreach and awareness activities in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>APPLICATION\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nTHIS GRANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOURCE OF FUNDING\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nUSDA Forest Service- through the Cohesive Fire Strategy Grants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STATUTORY CITATION\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nN.J.S.A. 13:1D-9 (q), (r ) and N.J.S.A. 13:9 et seq.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHO IS ELIGIBLE\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nNJ counties, municipalities, and homeowner associations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR CONSIDERATION\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nCommunities located in documented wildfire risk areas that have met the criteria for Firewise Communities\/USA designation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GRANT LIMITATIONS\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nFunding is limited to half of the project cost, up to $5,000 per Firewise community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>APPLICATION PROCEDURES\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nCommunity Firewise Grant applications are accepted via NJ Department of Environmental Protection, System for Administering Grants Electronically (NJDEP SAGE) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/fire\/program\/firewise-grant.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.nj.gov\/dep\/parksandforests\/fire\/program\/firewise-grant.html<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nTraining provided in-house on a case-by-case basis and through Firewise USA and NFPA<\/p>\n<p><strong>FOR MORE INFORMATION\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nJoseph Battersby, Division Forest Firewarden<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:joseph.battersby@deptest.nj.gov\">joseph.battersby@deptest.nj.gov<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;289&#8243; img_size=&#8221;348&#215;261&#8243; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;] THIS GRANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
