The transapical axis is heteropolar. The cells have two laminar chloroplasts<\/span><b>. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cells overlap at 1\/3 of cell length. <\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Toxins and toxicity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Most species are potential producers of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">domoic acid (DA) and analogs. The toxins can cause Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning (ASP) Syndrome and affects seabirds, mammals, and even humans (Steidinger 2018 and references therein). <\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Distribution and Occurrence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pseudo-nitzschia <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">species are restricted to the marine environment; and most toxigenic species of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pseudo-nitzschia <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">occur in coastal waters.
