New Jersey Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan<\/h3>\n

Originally published by<\/span> the <\/span><\/span>New Jersey <\/span>Interagency Council on Climate Resilience<\/span><\/span><\/a> (Interagency Council) <\/span>in 2024, the <\/span>New Jersey Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan was updated in 2025 to incorporate <\/span>new<\/span> action commitments that have been<\/span> integrated seamlessly <\/span>into the report<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The plan is made up of 143 actions, organized thematically into twenty focus areas and further organized to align with the priorities outlined in the foundational policy framework of New Jersey\u2019s Climate Change Resilience Strategy. Action commitments address the activities completed, underway, or recommended in individual agencies, as well as efforts that cut across several state agencies. <\/span><\/p>\n

Based on the research summarized in the New Jersey Scientific Report on Climate Change<\/a> (2020) and the Human Health & Communities Addendum <\/i><\/a> (2022), <\/span>New Jersey is warming faster than the rest of the Northeast region and the world, experiencing its third-hottest summer recorded in 2022. High temperatures are associated with immediate and long-term health concerns, diminished air quality, and increased food and water supply pressures. This plan identifies the challenges associated with rising temperatures and the actions of state departments and agencies to address them.<\/p>\n

Heat Hub NJ<\/span><\/h4>\n

Heat Hub NJ is New Jersey\u2019s statewide resource on extreme heat. Originally launched during Climate Week 2023, it received major updates in 2024 and 2025. The 2025 relaunch introduced \u201creal world\u201d videos featuring vulnerable residents, such as older adults and children in urban areas, sharing how extreme heat affects their health and daily lives. It also added downloadable flyers for homeless populations on recognizing heat-related illnesses, tips for staying safe, and a resident checklist for preparing for heat waves. Users can now access the IAC\u2019s 2025 extreme heat webinar series, which features experts discussing how heat impacts environmental justice, emergency management, infrastructure, transportation, energy, and the natural environment.
